Community Letter from the Title IX Survey Oversight Group

Dear Vassar Community,

As you may recall from an e-mail sent at the end of last semester from the President’s Office, Vassar conducted a survey of students enrolled during the spring 2015 semester (on-campus and JYA) concerning issues relevant to sexual assault, partner violence, and stalking on campus.

This was the first time Vassar conducted a survey solely dedicated to these topics, and responses have provided vital information from the student perspective and experience that Vassar needed to know, and did not have in this form until now.

We hope you will take this opportunity to review the findings in the Summary Report and that you will join us for one of the open campus presentations with the oversight group and other key members of the community who will be available to answer questions and begin to move the conversation from “what happens here” to “where do we go from here.” These presentations will be held Mon., Feb. 1, at 7-8:30 pm in Rocky 300, and Thurs., Feb. 4 in Rocky 300, at 5:30-7 pm. Additionally, shorter presentations will be made to the Vassar Student Association (VSA) on Sun., Jan. 31 and at the administrative forum and the faculty meeting on Wed., Feb. 3.

The full report will be issued and posted as soon as all of the statistical work is completed.

All members of the survey oversight group (below) are happy to answer any and all questions about this survey and the project generally.

Sincerely, the members of the survey oversight group,

David Davis-Van Atta, Director of Institutional Research and Assessment
Rachel Pereira, Director of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action/Title IX Coordinator
Kelly Grab, Assistant Director of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action/Title IX Investigator
Charlotte Strauss Swanson, Sexual Assault and Violence Prevention Coordinator
Hannah Matsunaga ‘16, VSA Vice President for Student Life (2014-15)

A special thanks to former members and other contributors…

  • Renee Pabst, Director of Health Education
  • Julian Williams, former Director of Equal Opportunity & Affirmative Action/Title IX Officer
  • Claire Ashley ‘15, Post-Baccalaureate Fellow for the Office of Institutional Research

Lastly, we would like to offer our appreciation to the senior officers and staff, particularly President Catharine Hill, Dean Christopher Roellke, Dean Jon Chenette, and Dean Benjamin Lotto, who have supported this project from inception through completion.
